ATextEditor
Plain text, and nothing else - a lean editor for macOS.
Dark and light appearance - ATextEditor follows the system or your choice.
Between a notepad and an IDE
The editor that comes with your Mac does too much and too little at once: it turns straight quotes into curly ones, pastes fonts nobody asked for - and switch it to plain text and the line numbers go too. ATextEditor is the thing in between: more than a notepad, far less than an IDE.
- Line numbers that stay correct with soft wrap
- Syntax highlighting for 26 languages - chosen by extension, filename or shebang
- Tabs and split panes that can show two places in one file
- Side-by-side diff with character-level highlighting
- Watches files: reloads unchanged ones, asks before losing edits
- Encodings & line endings detected and preserved on save
- Dark, Light and Solarized - or follow the system
- Optional Vim key bindings with a LazyVim preset
Nothing leaves your Mac
Unsaved work stays on this machine and nowhere else. No iCloud, no sync, no telemetry, no account. Close the app with unsaved buffers and they are waiting when you come back. The app privacy label reads accordingly: data not collected.
Not an IDE - on purpose
No build system, no debugger, no language server, no plug-ins. If you need those, you already have them. ATextEditor is for the file you just want to open, change and close - quick to open, quick to close, nothing in the way.
